In my lifetime 3 events that devastated Chester, the 9/13/71 flood that killed 10 people and destroyed several downtown businesses, 2/2/78 Wade chemical dump site fire to this day is still affecting the health of firefighters involved, and the 1989 closure of the Sun Ship and Dry dock company. To witness these events and see the affect on people and the city over time is hard especially for a city whose industrial decline dates back to 1950.

Passaic my home town. I used to live all around the bowels of that city. It used to be a place to be proud of even though my family was poor. We had the boys club, P.A.L. library on 3rd Street etc. We had GREAT PEOPLE who CARED about us youth. Even the police played with us wiffle ball, foot ball in the early 80’s. I remember even Mr. Holster coming during summer break picking us up and treating us to Friendly’s. Miss Pamela Hammer and all the WONDERFUL TEACHERS who DEFINITELY made a DIFFERENCE! GOD BLESS YOU ALL. I’ve met the MOST WONDERFUL PEOPLE there in Passaic. I LOVE YOU ALL! As an adult I used to live in building 19 in the projects. I saved my money and moved my family out. Passaic used to be such a BEAUTIFUL PLACE! When I ride through it disgusting what ALL the mayors have done to her. It’s VERY OVER CROWDED, TACKY,never parking ,can’t drive through the city on the weekends,and too COLORFUL. DISGUSTING!!!! Man I lived in Greek Town for 20 years and I'll say this I love Baltimore but man the city is trash, its truly a shit hole and I always hold a spot for Baltimore but man place will never be a great city ever again, too much poverty all across the board crime drugs employment issues no one wants to work illegals the city will never be above sea level with any type of success, schools are too far gone for kids no one wants to be educated no more it's the truth. Go look on them corners tell me who do you see day in day out? We know the truth come out and say it..

Between Baltimore, Camden, and Philly you can flip a coin as all of them are similar. I’ve been to most of the major cities on the east coast and these three sadly look the worst.

My mom’s been a teacher in Passaic for about 30 years and I used to live there as a kid. Went to Jefferson school #1. Things definitely go down in Passaic , it will force you to be tough. I’m appreciative of my time in Passaic, there is a lot of hard working people there , people who care about their families and their community. Passaic is one of the most diverse places I ever lived in and it shows in all the authentic local food spots. Passaic exposed me to many cultures at a young age and i feel like that’s helped me out a lot in life every where I’ve been. Passaic isn’t perfect but 4th most miserable city is a stretch 😂
